About Hudson

Hudson is a charming city located in St. Croix County and has a population of about 12,000 residents. The city has experienced rapid growth in the past decade due to its close proximity to the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul. The city is also bordered by the village of North Hudson to the north. The city was originally named St. Croix, until it was renamed in 1852 for New York’s Hudson River. The city of Hudson was founded in 1840 by Louis Massey and Peter Bouchea. They were one of the first people to settle at the mouth of the Willow River, and during the 1850’s and 1860’s, more settlers moved into the area. Most of the residents living in Hudson today are descendants of those pioneers. During the mid 1800’s, Hudson was a lumber center, and the St. Croix Valley was soon filled with various sawmills. Hudson was once home to a greyhound racing track, St. Croix Meadows, which closed in 2000. Hudson has been a major tourist destination because of its unique shops and restaurants located in the city’s popular downtown district. Hudson also contains many hotels, gas stations, and other businesses that service traffic along Interstate Highway 94. Hudson also offers excellent recreational activities, including golfing, boating, biking, and much more. The city also holds exciting events and festivals including concerts in the Park, a Pepper Festival, Dinner Theaters, and various cruises.
