With a bustling population of about 23,000 residents, the beautiful city of Muskego is located within Waukesha County. The name, Muskego, is derived from a Native American term meaning “sunfish.” The city is also located near three, stunning lakes, which include Little Muskego Lake, Big Muskego Lake, and Bass Bay, all of which are popular fishing sites. Muskego was officially incorporated as a city in 1964, and includes the towns of Tess Corners and Durham Hill. The city was once a quaint farming community, but it has since developed into a bedroom community for the neighboring city of Milwaukee. Muskego was once a popular destination because of Muskego Beach Amusement Park, which was located in the area. It was once home to the world’s fastest roller coaster, but competition of nearby amusement parks led to its closure in the late 1900’s. Today, the land where Muskego Beach was once located has been developed into housing communities. Today, one of the popular attractions in the city is the annual Muskego Community Festival, which offers live entertainment, food, carnival rides, and games. The city also offers great dining, shopping, and recreational opportunities for everyone.
