Located in Waukesha County, the city of Pewaukee has a population of about 12,000 residents. The city was incorporated in 1999, from what was originally the Town of Pewaukee, and the Village of Pewaukee is located within the city. The name of the city comes from the Native American Potawatomi term, “Pee-wauk-ee-wee-nick,” which means “the dusty water” or “lake of shells.” Much of the region’s rich history is preserved in the city’s Pewaukee Area Historical Society. Pewaukee is also home to Harken, a large manufacturer of high-quality sailboat and yacht gear, and the Spring Creek Church, which is one of the largest churches in the Milwaukee area.
