About Sheboygan
Located in Sheboygan County, eastern Wisconsin, Sheboygan is a beautiful city with a population of about 51,000 residents. Sheboygan is located along Lake Michigan, at the mouth of the Sheboygan River, and is situated only 50 miles north of Milwaukee. The city was originally established in 1818 as a fur-trading post by William Farnsworth of Green Bay. In 1835, the area was settled as a lumbering village, and cooperage became a successful business in the community. The name “Sheboygan” is derived from the Ojibwa language, and is believed to mean “passage between the lakes.” The city also has a rich German history relating to the numerous German immigrants that settled in the city, and they played and significant role in Sheboygan’s cultural and economic development. Sheboygan was once a Great Lakes shipping port, but today, the city has a diversified economy that consists of manufacturers of furniture, plastics, household equipment, automotive parts, metal products, air compressors, and wood and paper products. Sheboygan is also known for producing its bratwurst and cheese. The Lakeland College and University of Wisconsin – Sheboygan provide excellent education in the city. Other popular establishments and attractions in the city include the Indian Mound Park, John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Deland Park, Wesley Jung Carriage Museum, and the Kohler – Andrae State Park. Sheboygan is an excellent city that has something great to offer to everyone.
