The village of Sussex is situated in Waukesha County and has a population of about 9,000 residents. The first people to settle in the area where Sussex is now located were George Elliott and Richard Cooling in the mid 1800’s. Shortly after, more settlers arrived in the area. Richard Cooling was one of the prominent figures who helped develop Sussex into the community it is today. At the heart of the village is St. Alban’s church, which was originally a wooden structure, until it was replaced with a stone structure. During the late 1800’s, the settlement really began to develop, and many buildings were constructed. Sussex was officially incorporated as the Village of Sussex in 1924. The Village of Sussex boasts a small town atmosphere, safe living environment, and a high quality of life backed with exceptional public services. Sussex also promotes public services at a low cost, adequate, affordable, and quality housing, great job selection, and providing economic development. Sussex is also within minutes from the city of Milwaukee, so residents of Sussex have convenient access to all of the great shopping, dining, and recreational opportunities in Milwaukee.
