The city of Waukesha is the county seat of Waukesha County and has a bustling population of about 65,000 residents. The Town of Waukesha is also located adjacent to the city. In 2006, Waukesha was ranked as one of the 100 best places to live in the United States by Money. The area where Waukesha is currently located was first settled in 1834. The first European settler was Morris D. Cutler, and by 1846, the area was incorporated as the Village of Prairieville. However, in 1847, the name was changed to Waukesha, and in 1896, Waukesha was incorporated as a city. The city was once nicknamed “Spring City” and “Saratoga of the West” because of its extremely clean and good – tasting spring water. Residents living in a home or apartment for rent can find great shopping, dining, and recreational activities in Waukesha. The city is also home to numerous, excellent schools including Carroll University, University of Wisconsin – Waukesha, and New Tribes Bible Institute. The city is also home to the Cellnet Technology Inc, which plans to make Waukesha the second community in the state to contain a city-wide Wi-Fi network blanket. The city also hosts several exciting community events, including the Waukesha JanBoree, and a Fourth of July Festival.
