About Cody
With a population of about 9,000 residents, the city of Cody is the county seat of Park County in northwester Wyoming. The city is situated along the Shoshone River, which is east of the Absaroka Range. The city was first laid out in 1895 and developed by Colonel William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody. “Buffalo Bill” was responsible for the extension of the Burlington Railroad to the area, and helped developed Cody into a popular tourist resort and livestock ranch settlement. Today, Cody’s economy is comprised primarily of tourism, which is why the city contains many great hotels, restaurants, shops, and art galleries. Some of the popular attractions in Cody are the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, Cody’s boyhood home, Old Trail Town, Whitney Gallery of Western Art, the Shoshone National Forest, and Yellowstone National Park. Rodeos are also held in Cody from mid-Jude through August. The Yellowstone Regional Airport is also located in the vicinity. Cody is a charming, relaxing city that has something great to offer to everyone.
